Shift + Parenting Behavior in After Effects

In this quick post, I will show you the Shift + Parenting keyboard shortcut in After Effects.

So let’s say you are in After Effects and you want to take this logo

and position it in the exact same place as this null object.

Not only that, but let’s say we also want the logo to maintain the same rotation and scale of the null.

So we can do this the hard way by manually moving the logo over the top of the null and then manually adjusting the rotation and scale, which will take some time.

But let me show you a much faster way.

All you need to do is hold down SHIFT on your keyboard and then parent the logo by pick-whipping to the null object.

The logo will quickly snap in place and it will also inherit the same scale and rotation of the null.

Then you can simply unparent it like so:

And you are done! You can do that with any layer. I hope you enjoyed this quick tip!
