In this post, I will show you three new marker features in Adobe After Effects. They are tiny features, but I find them very useful.
The first one is Marker Duration, and this one is not the latest. I think it came out a couple of versions back, however, I think it is still relatively new. What you do is hover your mouse over any marker, hold down ALT+LEFT CLICK+DRAG on a PC/OPT+LEFT CLICK+DRAG on a Mac to the left or right of your marker as you can see that it is extending the duration of my marker.
It is no longer just one frame. You can double click
on the layer marker and adjust the duration of your layer marker manually in the pop-up.
Let’s take it down to ten frames, and as you can see, it will shorten the layer marker to ten frames inside our timeline.
The second one is the Color Labels. Let’s double click on any layer marker inside of our timeline. With
the Color Labels, you can change the marker to any color. Let me show you.
Let’s double click on the second marker and change it to color e green.
And lastly, let’s change the first layer marker to orange.
Your final result should look like this:
The last feature is Lock Markers. We can do a lot with markers. Right now we can click and drag our layer markers inside of our timeline.
We can also double click on a layer marker and go into the marker settings.
We can even get rid of our layer markers by pressing delete on the keyboard; however, all of these features can be disabled by right-clicking on any of our markers and selecting the Lock Markers option. It can be handy.
To undo Lock Marker that you just right-click again on the locked marker and make sure the lock markers option is unchecked off.
